¶ The Rather Difficult Font Game. Ici, on va appeler ça le Font Game tout simplement: it could (and should) be more difficult if you’d have to type them in, not merely choose them out of a random list. 32/34, modit Bembo.
¶ Saturday typography: Dutch designer Christoffer Hald designed quite a few of typographically rich logotypes. Full frame flash websites are always fun too (though I wish it wouldn’t turn black between the slides). Craig Ward’s Words Are Pictures displays similar fine details and ingenuity in larger pieces: posters, editorials. He loves to work and try type experiments with his Adana 5×3 printing press.
¶ Bag maker Crumpler bets on weirdest, quirkiness and humour to sell bags, somehow dosing it right to get associated with authenticity and good design. They are so creative, they even come up with their own ABC.
I was born in the 80s.
¶ Typographica’s best typfaces of 2007: sort of like the oscar winners of typography. Kind of makes you want to make posters and invitations all day long.
¶ Hot, slick n’ sexy: Justice’s latest clip DVNO pimped out pretty much all the 80s logos and typography clichés. I love how they tweaked the song to amplify the images; it also implies the musicians actually have a say in all of this. By the way, à moins que t’hibernes depuis Décembre, tu sais déjà que Justice sera à Montreal le 16 mars prochain.
¶ De-melting, re-forming, un-bubbling, type-texturing: Toca Me Design Conference titles by Dvein. How many melting/forming objects can you name? I see one Joe-Louis. UPDATE: Jeff m’envoie quelques explications et images du making of.
¶ Sean Freeman: traitements typographiques explosifs, encreux, lèvreuses.
Pis what is up with this fugly dock?
¶ Flickermood: smoooth experimental typographic animations. Or as motionographer and quipsologies put it: dope type animations.
¶ Typographica’s favorite fonts of 2006. Fresh stuff with lots of personality. The Guardian font is especially well set. Rumba and Omnes are my 2 favs.
¶ Type The Sky: you can make typography out of anything, even empty space between buildings.
¶ Pentagram explains the design of the new sign on the NYTimes building. The beak shape of the pieces is quite clever.
¶ Eine’s East End Shopfront Shutter Letters : Typo old-school + graffiti : on aime ça.
¶ Flickr: Grass typography in Berlin and the DRM is like… picture pool.
¶ Love at First Byte. A great article on programmer Donald Knuth, writer of the book The Art of Programming. He will, through the publishing of his book, be brought to program and built today’s typesetting systems. The best quote: “I wouldn’t have wanted to write The Art of Computer Programming if it was going to look ugly.” (merci Hugo)
¶ Value Pack: Alphabet made of raw hamburger. Y’a un jeu de mot pas loin, j’le sens… Ah, ché pas.
¶ For typography buffs: Type Directors Club TDC2 2007 Winners. I like Darden’s “Untitled” and Bee’s “Olga” most.
¶ What does Marsellus Wallace look like? Typographic film based on the classic Pulp Fiction scene. I wonder what it would be to watch a whole movie like this…
¶ Slideshow of the making of the new 1 USD coin.
¶ Tomas Broome Modern Mantras series. Drawing + Space + Words. Couple more here.
