Fogo 4: Happy Valentine's "Cold Plate" Day

14 February 2010

I was well raised and taught to finish my plate, no matter what your host is serving you. Though I felt all items were questionable, I finished it all, down to the last spoonful of green stuff. Yum-my.

Cake looks yummy!

Cold plates is pretty popular around here, especially during “potluck suppers” where everyone brings something for the buffet for special community events… Macaroni, potatoe salads, peas pudding (yellow mashed one?), etc… Although I’ve never seen something as green as that other thing on top… And the bread bun too. Freshly made they are delicious!

Are they going to screech you guys in?

What was that green stuff?

Your mother would be proud of you.

What’s so questionable about the items in a cold plate? In the one you have shown, you have roast meat, a slice of ham, lettuce, tomato, coleslaw, macaroni salad, mashed potato ( often seen with mixed vegetables in it which is know as potato salad, or white salad) and the yellow salad is Mustard salad, not peas pudding. The green “stuff” is jello salad, where you just add some fruit of your choice to a pack of jello and let it set. its very common in newfoundland.
